Bill Snively's Icy Road Accident (Feb 1936)

Tonight it's supposed to get cold here in Kansas (38F in May).   I hear there's snow for the Northeast and record cold in the South.  King got out of Kansas to warmer weather when record lows were recorded.

Billy Snively's Car Accident, Feb 10, 1936

Mr. Mar King

Dear Friend King:

I have intended to write you for some time but did not have your address.  I got it from Henry the other day.

We are having some very cold weather here.  It has been below zero for about a week now, but the weatherman promises us warmer weather soon.  You can be thankful that you are in a warmer climate.

We got into your cafe every time we are in Wichita and will say that we miss you very much.
Henry says that business is very good.

I went to Wichita Sat. the first, and coming home my car skidded on the ice and turned over landing upside down, after which it caught fire and completely burned up.  I had a very narrow escape, just had my collar bone broken, which of course, was very painful, and which will lay me up for about a month.  I feel that I was very lucky to have come out alive.

Former U.S. Senator Charles Curtis from Kans. who was Vice President under Hoover died in Washington Saturday morning and is to be buried in Topeka Tuesday.

I hope you are enjoying your visit and that you found your mother well when you arrived.  I know your mother was made very happy when you arrived, for, as you know, a mother is the best friend you have.

I heard over the radio this morning that China had a severe earthquake yesterday.  I thought of you and I hope you were outside the danger zone.  Trusting that I may hear from you soon and that you are having a most enjoyable visit. I remain,
                                                                                                        Ever your friend,
                                                                                                        Bill Snively

P.S. Tell your dear old mother that we wish her many more happy birthdays.
Mrs. Snively sends her best wishes to you all.
